Yesterday a story of mine was published in an issue of Literary Orphans. It’s one I’m pretty proud of, and my favorite to read aloud in public.

I recently read this as an opening for Sarah Gerard, author of Sunshine State, and she happened to say nice words about it!

This one came about following the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, which hit Jacksonville pretty hard. We evacuated to Tampa, and when we returned we found a lot of uprooted trees, and deep holes left where they used to stand. I couldn’t help but imagine what might be inside those holes.

I also have this habit for writing about things that give me anxiety. Divorce is one of them. I don’t imagine I’ll ever be divorced, but painting my life without Brittany was a big part of the construction of this story. Obviously, if she were to leave me, I’d probably eat a lot of pizza.

Check out the story here, and be sure to read the other work LO has chosen to publish.
