The Sinkhole

The last year and half or so I’ve been working on this novella. The general premise is that Xavier was abandoned by his mother at birth, and adopted by a white family that had a son that same day, Charlie. The TeBordo family raise Xavier and Charlie as twins.

When the boys are in college, Charlie meets Sierra, falls in love, gets engaged, and soon they are expecting. Sierra eventually has a still birth, and in the devastation, she and Charlie break up, and Charlie skips town.

Six years later, Xavier receives a post card from Charlie, with a stamp that says “Printed and Sold in Emerson, Florida.” His parents in Tokyo, and no other reason to stay in Maryland, Xavier heads to Florida in search of his brother.

The novella begins with Xavier already in Emerson, learning its history from a bartender.

An excerpt from that novella was published in Fjords Review a couple of weeks ago. You can find it here, as well as some other cool stuff from a cool publication.

Hope you enjoy and would love to hear your thoughts.
